Sofia - the city of my childhood

Sofia in photos has many faces – it is a capital with more than a hundred faces for it’s citizens, who know a lot and little for it’s history, and guests – who shortly see the most beautiful of it. For me it is the city from my childhood. The city I played, became friends and departed, found it’s life and seasons. And today – many years after – the beauty of the capital stays in it’s yellow pavement and golden church cubes, the theaters at Rakovska street, the beautiful buildings at Moskovska str., the shiny Vitosha str. and the view of Vitosha, the streets named by Tsars and stories from glory times, the parks and alleys with chestnut trees and lime tree, the squares and monuments of our grandparents, the fountains and the kid’s laughter, the exhibitions in the museums and the events in the National Palace of Culture, the ancient artifacts and the renewed infrastructure…

Beautiful photo from Sofia can be taken any time – day or night. There is a charm in the citizens in a hurry during the working days, but especially beautiful are the streets during holidays and weekends, when the clothes are more colorful and the faces shine in smile. Please don’t underestimate the sunset coloring in pink famous buildings as the church domes of Alexander Nevski or Russian church, or the Borisova or Doctor’s gardens, the water drops of the fountains, or the shadows of the monuments.

Do you have favorite season in Sofia, since I don’t easily choose only one. I found the beauty in snowy Sofia, in the lovers, walking hand in hand near the Monument of the Soviet Army under the snow flakes of the quickly piling up snow, in the snow-ball-fights of the kids in the parks. How about the spring – Sofia is green, clean and fresh, ready for new life and the eyes can see far away the Vitosha mountain peaks – without smog, only beauty. Summer is as well lovely – the festival season in the park of Voenna akademia G.S. Rakovski, when the sun and people of Sofia are warm and shining, peaceful and spiritual. I cannot miss the autumn, when every park in Sofia is colorful in warm nuances, and we enjoy the beauty with roasted chestnuts in hand.

The photo contest “Favourite Downtown Sofia Site” is part of the game “Discover Sofia and Love It” and is organised by  Hotel Downtown Sofia to celebrate it’s new corporate vision and web-site. The jury consists of a Downtown hotel manager, an experienced photographer from My Sofia and a representative from Go Guide. It will select first, second and third prize winners by the following criteria: the photography to be  related to the contest topic, to be emotional, original, positive, inspiring , to express personal attitude, to be spontaneous and natural. Half of the assessment will be formed by the photographic qualities of the proposed photos. The biggest prize – the one of the audience, will be honored to the photo with the most votes and highest rating on the page of the photocontest. The 10 best photos according to the audience and the jury will participate in exhibition at hotel Downtown.
